In the morning of November 27^th, 2018, Ms. Trong is directly examined by specialists in Phuong Dong General Hospital. Through clinical conclusion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Trong suffers from knee joint pain, limiting her movement because her left leg is deviated and crooked in 10º, causing her movement to crunch; left knee’s perimeter is bigger than right knee, etc.

Through clinical symptoms, the doctors have indicated X-rays, computerized tomography using modern equipment systems imported from leading countries in manufacturing medical machines such as Germany, France, and the United States, Japan, etc.

The results of X-ray s and CT scans, computerized tomography, etc., show that Ms. Trong had severe degeneration of the knee joint (T), causing narrowing of joints, subsidence of internal shin-bone of 2cm and loss of bone visible in the film. She is indicated to carry out surgery for full knee joint replacement as soon as possible. If the surgery is not carried out, the bone will be more eroded, causing deformity of the knee joint, which may lead to muscle atrophy and severe complications.

When receiving diagnosis results from specialists in Phuong Dong General Hospital, the patient’s family was very worried but still put full trust in the doctors at the Hospital.

Recognizing that this is a difficult surgery requiring high skill level and it should be done safely and accurately, the specialists and doctors of Phuong Dong General Hospital held a consultation in the afternoon of the same day before conducting surgery to replace the full knee joint for the patient.

In the morning of November 28^th, 2018, the patient was taken to the operating room and the surgery was directly led and performed by the People’s Doctor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thai Son.

After about 2 hours, under the implementation of the “golden hand” in orthopedic trauma surgery – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thai Son with the effective support of the team of specialists, the surgery was a great success!!

By 3pm on the same day, the patient Nguyen Thi Trong regained consciousness after a major surgery without even feeling that she had undergone a very complicated surgery.

Although the surgery is a great success, it is only 50% completed. After a few days of recovery, the doctors will apply anesthesia outside the sclera to assist the patient in the functional rehabilitation process.
