Nam Pung Hydropower Project is located on an area of 160ha in Nam Pung commune and Muong Hum Commune, Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province. The project started in 2007 and was connected to the national grid in 2014. It is invested by Infrastructure Investment and Transportation Construction Joint Stock Company, with the total capital of VND 134,501 billion. This is an open hydropower plant with a capacity of 9.3 MW with 3 engine units, its average power of more than 30 million kwh/year.
Nam Pung Hydropower Plant is currently one of the key projects, meeting the energy needs of Lao Cai and the Northwest mountainous region, contributing to preventing upstream floods of the Nam Pong Ho stream, contributing VND 47 billion to the local budget each year, creating an eco-tourism area from Sapa to Muong Vi, Xeo village and promoting tourism development in the area.
On January 20th, 2014, all 3 engime units of Nam Pung Hydropower Plant were connected to the National Power Grid and operated safely.
Currently, Nam Pung Hydropower Plant is supplying electricity in a stable manner at reasonable price, contributing to improving power quality, reducing power transmission losses and serving socio-economic development in Lao Cai Province and the whole country in general.
